Year in Review: Professional Growth and Networking Highlights (2023-2024)

Overview: The year 2023-2024 has been a remarkable journey of professional growth, learning, and networking. I had the opportunity to attend numerous keynotes, networking events, and hackathons, each contributing significantly to my development in the IT field. Here’s a look back at some of the standout experiences:

Key Events and Experiences:

BI & Burgers Event: Today, I had the opportunity to attend the BI & Burgers event hosted by Credon, alongside my fellow students. The event provided a deep dive into business intelligence (B.I.) and data management, with engaging presentations on the future of A.I. and the importance of personal data. Meeting Chris Umé, who shared his insights on A.I., was a highlight of the day. The event concluded with a delightful hamburger and networking opportunities. A big thank you to Credon for this enriching experience. Looking forward to the next edition!
Dronecollege Visit: During the Open Company Day, I visited Dronecollege in Westerlo, where I learned about drones and their applications. The facility offers courses and equipment for learning about drones and their regulations. I even had the chance to pilot a drone myself, which has sparked a newfound interest in drone technology. Highly recommended for those interested in drones!
NTX Company Visit: I had the privilege of visiting NTX, where I explored their dedication to building business applications and their impressive office designed for a stress-free work environment. The visit reinforced my enthusiasm for pursuing an internship at Netropolix next year. Excited about the future opportunities!
Lecture by Deevid De Meyer: Attending Deevid De Meyer’s lecture organized by Hacademy was an eye-opening experience. His presentation on generative AI was accessible even to non-technicians and provided a fascinating look into the world of AI. Thanks to Hacademy for this valuable event. I’m already looking forward to the Hackathon in March!
Certifications and Workshops:
- Proud to share that I obtained the Foundational C# certification from Microsoft through freeCodeCamp.
- I was second in the HacktheFuture hackathon, focusing on sustainability. Our team presented an impactful proposals: real-time energy dashboards for reducing ecological footprints.
Best Developer Challenge 2023: Thrilled to have participated in the Best Developer Challenge 2023 by De Lijn and Editx. The challenge involved creating a parking management application and optimizing bus order with a Java algorithm within one hour. Huge thanks to my team for their hard work and collaboration!
PitchPlease Hackathon: Delighted to have been part of the PitchPlease Hackathon organized by Cegeka and PitchPlease. Our team, F.T.I.T, consisting of six IT experts and two incredible women, achieved third place. It was an unforgettable experience, and I’m grateful for the teamwork and support from all involved.
DECA Packaging Group N.V. Visit: My visit to DECA Packaging Group N.V. in Herentals was both informative and inspiring. I observed their innovative automation processes and commitment to sustainability. The integration of cutting-edge technology and a focus on minimizing environmental impact were impressive.
Sinc Soiree: The evening at Sinc Soiree was a pleasure, with an engaging panel discussion and keynote on networking. Thanks to SINC for organizing such a valuable event and introducing me to new partners and interesting individuals. Looking forward to future collaborations!
Student Visit to Verpa: We welcomed students from Thomas More for a Business Processes project, where they examined our local company. Their interest and engagement were much appreciated.
Ice Awards Finale: Proud and grateful to have reached the finals of the Ice Awards, organized by Thomas More and Startpunt Ondernemen. Ostentium competed in the Entrepreneurship category, and although we didn’t win, it was an incredible learning experience. Congratulations to Flandrien Chocolate for their victory!
